Paying your mandatory excess in instalments

If you incur healthcare costs, you first pay the mandatory excess and if you expect to incur costs in the coming year, you can choose to pay this excess in 10 equal instalments.

This is how it works:

  • Activate paying the mandatory excess before the 1st of February to start paying in instalments. If you activate this option after the 1st of February, it will be activated for the next year.
  • You pay in 10 equal instalments of €38.50.
  • The first debit date is the 27th of February and the final debit date the 27th of November.
  • This payment option is available for both yourself and those co-insured over the age of 18.
  • Once activated, paying the mandatory excess in instalments will automatically be renewed the next year.

This payment option is available if:

  • you pay by using direct debit and
  • your excess does not exceed €385.

We pay back the amount of excess you have not used

Late April we will pay back the amount of mandatory excess you have not used and we will settle the amount with any unpaid bills. Some healthcare providers send us their bills quite late, so it is possible for you to receive a bill from Zilveren Kruis after April asking you to pay for the mandatory excess. We will notify you if this happens.

Want to cancel paying the mandatory excess in instalments?

You can cancel this payment option in Mijn Zilveren Kruis and if you cancel before the 1st of February the payments will stop immediately. If you cancel after the 1st of February, the instalments will not stop until the following year. Once you've cancelled, you will have to pay the full amount of the bill when the mandatory excess applies.
