Children younger than 18 don't pay premium

Children younger than 18 are co-insured for the basic and supplementary insurances. You don't pay premium for them. The excess doesn't apply to children younger than 18, however the statutory contribution sometimes applies. Do you or your partner have supplementary insurance? Your children will also receive the same supplementary package as the parent with the most extensive supplementary package.

The excess

The excess for 2018 is € 385. This means that you will pay the an amount of € 385 first before the basic insurance reimburses medical costs. The excess applies per calendar year and only to the basic insurance.

The excess doesn't apply to, among other things:

  • General practitioner (GP)
  • Maternity care
  • Care for your child under 18

The higher the excess, the lower the insurance premium

You can increase your voluntary excess for 2018 up to a maximum of € 885 for a lower insurance premium. However, you will pay a higher amount for medical costs.
